When Manifesting Doesn't Work, There May Be a Real Physical Reason
Myriam Maytorena, M.Ed.
What are you looking for?
The other day on the message board that I host at
http://clubmom.com a lady ask me if I believed that some
people were just cursed with bad luck. She went on to say
that it seemed that no matter what she did she just seemed
to always have bad luck.
Now, I don't know if she really believed that or if she was
just going through a bout of depression. A lot of times our
emotional state gets in the way of our manifesting. It is
hard to get out of a funk and into belief when we are
suffering from what doctors would call "clinical depression"
. One needs to discern whether one is depressed because of
the circumstances in life or if one is depressed and this
causes our perception of our circumstances in life.
Depression changes our perception, the way we remember and
the way we think our future will manifest. The first step to
self-intervention if your manifesting goals are not working,
is to check out if you have depression. While a true
diagnosis requires a trained psychiatrist, with help you can
stop depression and reduce the reoccurrence of the major
disorder.
Depression has been a major illness that has probably
bothered mankind since the evolution of the higher brain
when we could perceive our environment, and more
importantly, perceive our reaction to the environment.
Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, Vivien Leigh (Scarlet in
Gone With the Wind), John Denver, Judy Garland, Audrey
Hepburn, Marylyn Monroe are just a few of the famous people
who have suffered from either depression or
manic-depression. A study done in the late seventies of
writers, discovered that more than 80 percent of writers
attending a writing workshop demonstrated signs of
manic-depression. The rich, the poor, the good, the bad and
the ugly can all suffer from this debilitating disorder. So
could you or one of your dearest friends or family members.
Clinical, or major depression is the world's No. 1 mental
disorder, the 2nd most disabling condition in the world
behind heart disease. And it's growing at an alarming rate.
Depression is ten times more common now than in 1945.
However, the advances in research provide many ways to
change your thinking and thus eliminate or control
depression from talk therapy to drug therapy to many
complimentary therapies. Depression can even be related to
allergies or it may be related to situational experiences
which create stress. There is even some research that
over-dreaming is related to depression.
If you have been feeling down, or out-of-sorts, your
thoughts can easily turn to whether you are depressed or
not. However, whether you 'fit' the depression diagnosis or
not is unimportant. If you are feeling so down that you need
to do something about it, that is enough. If you are
constantly working on making your life better but your
thoughts always turn to the negative side and you can't seem
to manifest the life-style that you would like, then you
need to do something about it so that all those articles
that you are reading about making a better life can be put
into effect.
The 5 most common signs of depression, according to research
published in The International Journal of Psychiatry in
Medicine (1998) are as follows:
These five signs of depression were reported by at least 90%
of those in the study.
- Reduced enjoyment from usual activities
- Disappointment with self
- Hopelessness
- Irritability
- Difficulty sleeping
In my training to become a counselor, one of my first jobs
was as a suicide-prevention counselor. I learned that
talking to someone can really help. Without treatment
depression could become a terminal illness. So if you or
someone you love demonstrates some or all of the symptoms
listed above, reach out and talk to someone. You can
probably find a local help line listed in your phone
directory or call operator assistance. The following links
will be of help.
