Need a mood booster? Hit the showers!
Study finds bathing top choice to increase energy and reduce fatique in athletes
Dan Serra
Need vigor and energy to meet your workout goals? Researchers in
England have found that taking a bath or shower is one of the top
choices for athletes looking for that extra mental kick.
Of those athletes polled, 55% said they use the bath or shower to
increase energy, 68% use it to reduce fatigue, and 61% use it to
increase vigor. Taking a shower was the number one choice when it
came to reducing fatigue and increasing vigor. It was the second
choice for increasing energy, with sleeping the number one choice.
The University of Wolverhampton School of Sport study focused on ways
athletes can regulate their moods. Changing exercise location and
listening to music were also high on the preferred choices to improve
moods.
The research found that athletes can control their mood by the
actions they take and not rely solely on external factors.
By improving mood, athletes can boost their performance when they are
in a positive frame of mind.
"Everything may be in order physiologically for the athlete, but if
the mind is not straight, the athlete will not perform optimally,"
said sport psychologist Terry Orlick in the book, "The Ergogenics
Edge."
Makes sense. An athlete in a good mood is sure to perform better than
one in a bad mood. "The ability to control mood would be a useful
psychological tool for any athlete," the study's authors wrote.
For optimum benefit, don't forget the power of a bath. Today's
society is so rushed that the pleasure of soaking in a bath has been
neglected. Find the time for a bath and find just how much it will
benefit your mood and relax the body, especially before a big event.
In addition to taking a bath or shower, athletes can use more
strategies to alleviate a negative mood. These include thinking
positive, listening to music, using relaxation techniques, and
anticipating personal or social success.
While bathing, take a little nature with you. Natural bath products
provide more benefit to the mind and body than chemically made
products.
Especially of benefit for athletes is peppermint and eucalyptus to
clear your breathing and relax the mind. Citrus oils such as orange
and lemon help fight depression and can increase endurance. Marjoram
oil is a good muscle relaxant.
One product that incorporates these natural plant oils in soap is
Funk Out Sports Body Wash. "It's research likes this that make us
proud of Funk Out," said the soap's developer Dan Serra of
AthleteGift. "We made it before this research was conducted because I
knew from my own experience in athletics that bathing had a positive
influence on my mind. And we improved the bathing experience by
including natural ingredients that have been found to benefit active
lifestyles."
So when your weary from your workout or looking for a mental boost,
discover just how beneficial a refreshing bath can be.

LOVE'S GIFT TO YOU |
| |
LOVE, the divine, life force kind, NOT human love, cannot be divided, conquered or lost. It multiplies when given away and returns to the giver. LOVE is in every single atom of energy. It tells the skin how to be skin, the bones how to be bones, the air how to be air, etc. LOVE knows all, is all. The minute you do anything, LOVE inside every cell of my being registers what you have done at a very deep level.
