Losing Weight: Just 'Do It'
Wendy Hearn
Are you waiting for the right time, the right diet or the right exercise
routine before getting started? There's no such thing as the "right" or
"perfect" time to start to lose weight. Everything you need to lose weight
and become healthier is available to you now - today! Does this mean you
have to take everything that's available and use it all today? I would
suggest - No!
This is how many people embark on a new restrictive diet but there's so much
to do, to consider and to change that it becomes all too overwhelming in
their life. The diet and the effort to lose weight preoccupies them most of
the day whereas they should adopt a more relaxed approach to losing weight.
The changes imposed by a restrictive diet are usually too much for an
individual to implement. Although many people "try" to do this (and I
really stress, "try" because this often involves a struggle), it's generally
difficult for them to maintain. It's at this point that most people feel as
if they've failed but it's not you that's failed; it's the restrictive diet.
The way to achieve permanent weight loss is to make small changes and to
incorporate these in your life. Okay, so making small changes is the way
forward but there is one other component. As Nike says, "do it". So often,
for various reasons, we wait before starting to make these changes and if
you're not careful, time passes and you haven't even made a start.
I really encourage you to decide on one small change and just "do it". No
more putting it off, just pick one thing you know you can change or do
something about immediately. You may choose to make a list of all the
changes you want to make. You can then choose one thing and when that has
become a permanent change, you move down the list and decide what to do
next. The choice is yours and I encourage you to go with what feels right
for you. Most importantly, just "do it". You may find after a while that
whatever you've chosen to do doesn't suit you or is hard to keep up. That's
fine, I suggest you just drop it and choose something else to focus on and
"do it". Getting into the habit of "doing it" keeps you active and action
makes the difference between achieving permanent weight loss or not.
What I want for you is to just "do it".
