HIGH FAT DIET
Aileen Chase
We are all familiar with many of the reasons for weight control. Some we
have discovered the hard way -- back ache, breathlessness, lack of energy,
more expensive clothes and simply looking less attractive.
The unlucky ones also develop high blood pressure, possibly with the problem
of medication for life, or diabetes, or strokes or heart attacks.
Now to add to the list is a greater risk of cancer!
Some of these problems are related to the intake of fat (and some skinnies
eat too much fat thereby getting some of the coronary artery problems or eat
too much sugar with some risk of diabetes).
High fat diets were already known to increase the risk of cancer at any size
and as many fat people eat too much fat there is nothing really new here --
but hopefully a further boost to your motivation to weight control.
FAT is FOUL. SUGAR is STUPID.
GREENGROCERIES are GORGEOUS.
FISH is FINE.
LEAN is LOVELY. OFFAL is not awful, for slimmers it is LAWFUL.
MILK
Aileen Chase
Once again milk is in the news. Bad for you again. Good and bad
alternately. But hopefully you can see through the writers who love to
create food scares. The non-fat part has protein, B group vitamins, calcium
and even a little vitamin C (which is rare in animal foods). The fat of the
milk i.e. cream or butter, is high in saturated fat and will clog your
arteries so it should be avoided. (Margarine or cream substitutes are just
as bad). However you might worry about the loss of vitamins A and D which
is in the fat part of milk? No problem. Dried skim milk has added A and D
to make it better than whole milk. Also made up when wanted it is actually
fresher than doorstep or carton liquid milks.
Best source of vitamin A is carrots -- also greens of all types.
Best source of vitamin D is oily fish (NOT fish in oil). The canned types
have soft bones which can be eaten as a source of calcium which is useful
for those who use little milk.
Eggs also have vitamins A and D. The cholesterol in them does not cause
problems (contrary to journalists scare stories). It is blood cholesterol
which is the problem - related to the intake of saturated fat (solid at room
temperature, such as butter). There is some saturated fat in eggs -
